WFC's Team-By-Team Preview - Part 5

Arsenal - 4

Top target

Alexandre Lacazette - £10.5 - TSB 17.4%

The guy is a goal scorer. 34 goals in 34 games in all competitions last season shows this. It is also expected that he will take penalties for Arsenal. He may take a little bit of time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, but expect Lacazette to be near the top of the golden boot race this season.

Differential

Mesut Özil - £9.5 - TSB 2.2%

Created on average 3 chances per start last season (11 assists). Having a more ruthless striker in Lacazette up front will boost his creative returns in FPL.

Be wary of…

Aaron Ramsey - £7.0 - TSB 1.2%

When he plays, he’s one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world. However, his poor injury record, Arsenal’s external competition commitments, and the fact that Wenger has a lot of other central midfielders at his disposal means that Ramsey will probably be rested quite often.

Predicted top scorer

Lacazette (21)

Predicted top assister

Özil (21)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Tottenham - 3

Top target

Harry Kane - £12.5 - TSB 37.8%

The guy is a goal scoring freak. Explosive potential, fixture proof, penalty duties and in a team that scores lots of goals. People are concerned that the change of grounds may hamper his ability to score goals, but that is unlikely.

Differential

Toby Alderweireld - £6.0 - TSB 15.3%

Had an excellent season FPL wise in 2015/16, but attacking returns and bonus points dried up last season. This shouldn’t be too much of a worry though. He still averages about 1 shot per game and 14 forward zone passes, meaning that he still has attacking potential. If this potential doesn’t turn into attacking returns though, clean sheet points will be very common.

Be wary of…

Heung-Min Son - £8.0 - TSB 0.9%

Son was sensational last season when in the team. However, in addition to his injury, question marks remain over his place in the starting side. A bench position is likely to start the season.

Predicted top scorer

Kane (34)

Predicted top assister

Eriksen (23)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Manchester City - 2

Top target

Vincent Kompany - £6.0 - TSB 5.7%

His injury woes seem to be behind him now. He has matured greatly and recognises when he is fatigued, opting to skip matches on occasion for his self preservation. 3 goals in the last few GWs of last season highlight his attacking potential, and 4 clean sheets in the final 8 GWs captures his defensive influence and potential for clean sheets.

Differential

Sergio Aguero - £11.5 - TSB 11.0%

I never thought I’d be writing this. Aguero as a differential. There’s not much to say. 20 goals, 5 assists and 175 points is a poor season for this guy. He did this only making 25 starts too. A proven goal scorer who contrary to what people are arguing, is not past his peak and on the decline.

Be wary of…

Leroy Sane - £8.5 - TSB 5.6%

After a slow start to life as a Citizen, he finished off the season strongly and nailed down a spot on the wing. However, Guardiola's new 3-4-1-2 means that there will most likely be no starting spot available for Sane this season (at the start of the season at least). If the formation changes, expect heavy rotation among Sane, D.Silva, B.Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan and Sterling once the external competitions begin.

Predicted top scorer

Aguero (24)

Predicted top assister

De Bruyne (21)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Chelsea - 1

Top target

Marcos Alonso - £7.0 - TSB 13.7%

Chelsea’s left wing back was often the most advanced attacker in the side last season. Combine his 6 goals and 5 assists with regular clean sheets, and you’ve got a regular source of points.

Differential

Victor Moses - £6.5 - TSB 0.4%

Despite Moses’ natural attacking instincts, he is only owned by 0.4% in FPL. However, Moses bettered Alonso for both shot and shot assist frequency. Now listed as a defender, Moses has the potential to pick up regular clean sheet points as well as attacking returns.

Be wary of…

Alvaro Morata - £10.0 - TSB 6.8%

Regardless of his pedigree, it’s always tough for a player coming to the Premier League from the Serie and La Liga. Expect Morata to be given time to adjust and with Batshuayi ending last season well and finding top form in pre-season, Morata may not be the best FPL option in his price range for now.

Predicted top scorer

Hazard (17)

Predicted top assister

Fabregas (14)

Predicted GW1 line-up

WFC's Team-By-Team Preview - Part 4

Southampton - 8

Top target

Ryan Bertrand - £5.5 - TSB 13.7%

An assured starter at left back, Bertrand is a key man for the Saints. With regular clean sheets likely, Bertrand’s potential is boosted by his attacking output, registering 2 goals and 5 assists last season.

Differential/Punt pick

Manolo Gabbiadini - £7.0 - TSB 6.0%

Gabbiadini started life at St Mary’s very brightly, with 4 goals in his first 3 games. However, he then went on a blanking spree, frustrating many FPL managers. Despite these bad memories though, Gabbiadini, who had a shot frequency of 1 every 26.8 minutes last season, has the potential to re-find his goal scoring touch this season and be among the league’s top scorers.

Be wary of…

Dusan Tadic - £6.5 - TSB 3.7%

His stats are always so good, but his final product is severely lacking. 3 goals and 7 assists in 30 starts last season are not good enough for a player of his quality. If he continues to be so wasteful in front of goal, and more of an ‘assister of the assister’ player, FPL manager should look elsewhere.

Predicted top scorer

Gabbiadini (17)

Predicted top assister

Ward-Prowse (10)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Everton - 7

Top target

Wayne Rooney - £7.5 - TSB 16.4%

Rooney looks in the best shape he has been in for years. Playing with passion, he has 2 goals in pre-season from his position up front, and will most likely take penalties and free kicks.

Differential/Punt pick

Kevin Mirallas - £6.5 - TSB 3.4%

An extremely dangerous player, Mirallas had a solid last season, but couldn’t get much momentum. With a shot frequency of 1 every 35 minutes (4 goals) and a chance created every 49 minutes (8 assists), Mirallas has vowed to bring more goals to his game this season and will be an important player for Koeman.

Be wary of…

Davy Klaassen - £7.5 - TSB 2.3%

Klaassen is a classy player and will probably turn out to be a very good signing. However, history shows that players from the Eredivisie struggle in their first season in the Premier League. We're definitely not ruling him out as an FPL option, but just saying be a bit cautious.

Predicted top scorer

Rooney (16)

Predicted top assister

Mirallas (9)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Liverpool - 6

Top target

Mohamed Salah - £9.0 - TSB 20.9%

Coming off the back of 15 goals and 11 assists for Roma in the Serie A last season, Salah will be full of confidence in his return season to the Premier League. Having netted 4 goals in pre-season, Salah will be a key player for the Reds this season, and one of their biggest attacking outlets.

Differential/Punt pick

Gini Wijnaldum - £7.0 - TSB 7.6%

Wijnaldum could be a steal this season. Not many midfielders in his FPL price bracket have scored 17 goals and provided 15 assists over the past two seasons. This clearly highlights his attacking potency, even though he plays as a central midfielder.

Be wary of…

James Milner - £6.5 - 6.4%

Despite topping defenders for chances created last season (57), as well as placing 3rd for shots (36) and 1st for goals (7), Milner is likely to be subject to rotation this season. Klopp has said that he will not be utilised at left back as much. This means that he will be less assured of a start, having to battle with all of Liverpool's other midfielders for a spot in the starting side.

Predicted top scorer

Mane (17)

Predicted top assister

Firmino (15)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Manchester United - 5

Top target

Romelu Lukaku - £11.5 - TSB 48.5%

Off the back of his most productive goal scoring season, 'Big Rom' should easily fit into his new surroundings at the Red Devils, highlighted by his 3 goals in pre-season. Expect him to be right in the golden boot race again this season.

Differential/Punt pick

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - £8.0 - TSB 6.2%

Didn’t have a great first season in England, only scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist. He should nail down a regular starting spot this season though, and if his pre-season form is anything to go by (3 goals and 3 assists), Mkhitaryan could replicate his form at Dortmund which saw him net 11 goals and provide 15 assists in the 2015/16 season.

Be wary of…

Victor Lindelof - £5.5 - 8.1%

Lindelof has received a lot of love from FPL managers so far, but this love is unwarranted. He is unproven at the top level and against opponents such as those he will face in the Premier League. Some poor performances in pre-season have put his starting spot into question.

Predicted top scorer

Lukaku (27)

Predicted top assister

Mkhitaryan (13)

Predicted GW1 line-up

WFC's Team-By-Team Preview - Part 3

West Ham - 12

Top target

Marko Arnautovic - £7.0 - TSB 3.1%

A proven FPL asset, with 17 goals, 13 assists and 26 bonus points in the past two seasons. Most impressively though, he had 15 clear cut goal scoring chances (those in which the player is expected to score) last season. This was not a off, as he managed 18 the season before. At his new club, it seems likely that Arnautovic will continue to thrive.

Differential

Michail Antonio - £7.5 - TSB 0.2%

In his past two seasons, he has managed similar returns to Arnautovic (17 goals, 15 assists and 20 bonus points). However, he has managed these returns in 1055 minutes less that the Austrian. Last season, Antonio registered a shot frequency of 1 every 31.6 minutes, which is very good. His clear cut chances stats are less impressive though, and he is injured to start the season.

Be wary of…

Robert Snodgrass - £6.0 - TSB 6.5%

Following last year’s returns and stats, Snodgrass is very appealing at a price of only £6.0. This has seen him be picked up by 6.5% of FPL mangers. However, it is highly unlikely Snodgrass will start for the Hammers, with Lanzini, Arnautovic, Antonio, A.Ayew and Feghouli all appearing above him in the race for a starting spot in attack. According to reports, he may not even be a West Ham player come the end of the transfer window.

Predicted top scorer

Chicharito (14)

Predicted top assister

Lanzini (9)

Predicted GW1 line-up

West Brom - 11

Top target

Jay Rodriguez - £6.0 - TSB 3.2%

Despite being limited to only 9 starts last season, Rodriguez still managed to net 5 goals and provide 2 assists. Over the past 2 seasons, he has managed a shot frequency of 1 every 23.6 minutes, which is exceptional. This, combined with his pre-season form (2 goals), suggest that he may be able to re-find the form which saw his score 15 goals in the 2013/14 season.

Differential

Nacer Chadli -£6.0 - TSB 2.1%

Was quite inconsistent last season, but showed glimpses of the form in which he managed 160 FPL points in the 2014/15 season. If he can link up well with Rodriguez, Phillips and Rondon, Chadli could be at the centre of a dynamic attack. The fact that he is West Brom’s number one penalty taker boosts his appeal.

Be wary of…

Ben Foster £4.5 - TSB 16.1%

Owned by nearly 20% of FPL managers, Ben Foster should be avoided. The idea that West Brom are a great defensive side is somewhat of a myth, having only kept 6 in 38 games last season. In pre-season, it took them four games to register a clean sheet, but that was against Burton Albion. If you own Foster, you could be relying on saves points each week.

Predicted top scorer

Rodriguez (11)

Predicted top assister

Phillips (9)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Newcastle - 10

 Top target

Dwight Gayle - £6.5 - TSB 5.4%

Finally reached his potential last season, netting 23 goals at approximately 3 shots per game. Is the undisputed go to man in attack for the Magpies, and he has a point to prove on his return to England’s top flight.

Differential

Siem De Jong - £5.0 - TSB 0.3%

Returns to Newcastle on the back of 6 goals and 1 assist in 10 starts for PSV in the Eredivisie last season. Started the pre-season well providing an important assist to build confidence, and should he nail down a regular role in the starting side, De Jong could make it third time lucky, and finally prove himself in the Premier League.

Be wary of…

DeAndre Yedlin - £4.5 - TSB 1.2%

Was extremely impressive last season, picking up 1 goal and 5 assists, but the signing of Javier Manquillo means that Yedlin is facing a battle to remain first choice right back at the club. His injury means that Manquillo will get first crack at the role, and Yedlin may find it hard to force his way back in.

Predicted top scorer

Gayle (13)

Predicted top assister

Ritchie (8)

Predicted GW1 line-up

Bournemouth - 9

Top target

Josh King - £7.5 - TSB 5.4%

Was exceptional in the second half of last season, seeing him finish with 16 goals, 3 assists and 17 bonus points. Although listed as a forward this season, he still has the potential to net regular goals.

Differential

Junior Stanislas - £6.0 - TSB 0.2%

His last season was very interrupted by injury. However, he still managed 7 goals and 6 assists, with a shot frequency of 1 every 39 minutes. Will also likely take free kicks and corners. Is injured to start the season, but should be a great option upon his return.

Be wary of…

Jermain Defoe - £8.0 - TSB 11.6%

Had his equal second best goal scoring season in 2016/17. However, as Eddie Howe has other strikers at his disposal (Afobe and the returning from injury Wilson), the soon to be 35 year old will likely have his minutes restricted this season.

Predicted top scorer

Afobe (14)

Predicted top assister

Fraser (13)

Predicted GW1 line-up
